How to Remove Dents From Your Car
If you have ever walked up to your vehicle and noticed that it had a dent that was not there before, or if you have accidentally hit something and dinged your car, then you know that feeling of annoyance that comes with your second biggest purchase being damaged. However, do not fret. There are a number of tricks you can try to remove dents from your car. If worse comes to worst, C&D Dent Guys can remove the dents for you.
Dry Ice to Remove Dents
The first thing you can try is going to the grocery store and purchasing some dry ice. Then, using gloves, touch the ice to the dent for a few seconds. Repeat until the indentation is gone. This is a fast method, but be sure to use gloves so the dry ice doesn’t injure you.
Hair Dryer Method
Take your hair dryer and turn it on high. Then turn it on the dent and let it blow for a few seconds. The next thing you need to do is take a can of air and blast it until it pops out. This method can be hit or miss, but it’s something to try.
Using a Hammer
If you have more than just a small ding, you may want to try to either hammer out the problem or take a plunger to it. If you are going to try a hammer to remove dents, you need to start by wrapping a rag around a flat piece of metal. Then, place it on the outer side of the vehicle and begin banging the dent from the underside with a flat-ended hammer.
You need to be extremely careful so that you bang only the underside of the dent and not the surrounding area. Otherwise, you will end up with a couple of new bumps that you will need to deal with. It is best to work from the shallow sides of the dent toward the deeper areas. You also need to avoid overworking the metal because it can stretch out. Fair warning, this method to remove dents is not recommended if the car part with the dent is made of either aluminum or plastic. Aluminum can stretch and plastic can crack.
Relying On a Plunger
If you are going to try and use the plunger to remove dents, you will use it in a similar manner as when you are trying to unclog the toilet. Begin by moistening the edge of the rubber on the plunger. Then, place it over the dent. Next, establish suction by pressing down on the handle and pull the plunger toward you. Bear in mind that it may take a couple of tries before the metal pops back. This technique works especially well on large areas like doors and fenders, but only if they have only been bent inward. Moreover, it may work on both aluminum and steel, depending on the size of the dent. It does not work on plastic.
